In the spring of 2025, a team of cavers traveled to the Sierra Juarez mountain range, in southern Mexico. Their goal was to explore Cueva Palomora, near the current terminus of one of the world’s deepest known caves, Sistema Cheve. They went on to spend 27 consecutive days underground.

Matt, a Fayetteville native and Associate Professor of Geosciences at the University of Arkansas, is one of the world’s leading cave explorers and scientists, pushing the limits of expedition-style cave exploration around the world.
Hiis presentation will center around his recent expedition to Systema Cheve in Mexico, one of the deepest cave systems on Earth.
