Sustainable Materials Diversion
--Waste diversion begins with redefining the idea of “waste.” By reconsidering what normally goes to a landfill (anything left-over from what we consider “useful”), we can identify how to properly divert most materials from being buried in a place that was a green space. We have found that “waste” is most often a material that can be reused or recycled, transforming it into a sustainable material. In our quest to ensure conscious waste management, we methodically separate all sustainable materials into groups of “like” materials. We are then able to divert these materials from the landfill through concise organizational processes. In 2016 we began to track the weight of all sustainable materials diverted from the landfill and conduct a yearly waste audit to calculate the amount of waste we prevent from going to the landfill. These metrics allow us to deeply consider the impact of our business practices and mindfully adjust how and what we use to keep our business running smoothly. In 2020, even with all the uncertainties accompanying the pandemic, we have been able to keep our zero waste processes on track.
