WILDERNESS FIRST AID CERTIFICATION

WFA Course description and details -
This two-day course immerses participants in essential wilderness medicine procedures, preparing individuals to take immediate action when an outdoor activity doesn't go as planned and 911 responders are hours away. Time is split between interactive classroom sessions and hands-on field scenarios to prepare participants and help them quickly develop basic backcountry medical care skills. The course focus is on patient assessment, stabilization and emergency treatment of issues such as hypothermia and snakebites, as well as understanding when and how to attempt evacuation. Participants will emerge capable of calmly responding to a wide variety of emergency situations.
Taught by SRI Instructor Trainer Tom Burroughs, team leader of the Washington County AR Wilderness Search and Rescue team. Tom has been an emergency responder since 1990 and is a NREMT/WEMT and SRI WildMed Instructor Trainer. Tom brings a lifetime of backcountry experience and has been teaching Wilderness Medicine courses since 2006.
All participants will need to be dressed in clothing that can be stained and/or damaged, as the program is heavily hands on, and moulage will be used to promote training authenticity.
Participants will need to be prepared to be outside for many of the training hours, regardless of weather conditions, unless hazardous (storms or extreme heat or cold). Participants should bring whatever items they commonly carry on their persons in the performance of their duties, as improvisational concepts are an important aspect of this course.
All program supplies and a waterproof field guide which becomes property of the participant, provided by Ozark Safety and Rescue Educators (OSRE) as part of the program cost.
Successful completion of the entire program will result in a three year nationally recognized Wilderness First Aid Certification through Sierra Rescue International.

WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER, WILDERNESS EMT RECERTIFICATION
• Sierra Rescue International (SRI) 24hr. Wilderness First Responder/WEMT Recertification course-
• January 4-6, 2025 @ Byrd's Adventure Center- Ozark, AR
• $315.00 (which also includes a 2 year BLS Certification)
Course runs from 8am-5pm each days, and the required CPR course will be held 6-9pm on the 5th (required unless you hold a current BLS card)
WFR/WEMT Recert Course description and details -
This three day course is an opportunity to recertify your WFR or WEMT certification through participating in a three day course that includes a 2 year BLS certification in addition to a 3 year SRI WFR (or WEMT) certification.
The course includes two days of fast paced scenario based WFA training to get you up to date on the basics, followed by a third full day of WFR/WEMT level training and scenarios to get your higher level skills sharpened up!
The course is taught by SRI WildMed Trainer Tom Burroughs, NREMT/WEMT. Tom is the Team Leader for The Washington County Arkansas Wilderness Search and Rescue Team. Starting in the fire service in 1990, and in EMS in 1991 he brings a lifetime of backcountry experience and has been teaching Wilderness Medicine courses since 2006.
This 24+ hr course will recertify most current (not expired) WFR/EMT-W certifications. If you did not certify with us originally, please contact us before applying for this course at Swiftwaterrescue@gmail.com to verify that your current (or not more than one year expired if a 2 year cert) certification meets our requirements. We certify through Sierra Rescue International, which gives you nationwide reciprocity with other WMS member providers. This course will also include Adult/Child/Infant Healthcare Provider Level Certification on the evening of the 5th.
